RESETTING THE BODY AFTER INJURY AND TRAUMA
Injury creates two effects: the primary effect is the initial acute pathologic changes to muscle, fascia, nerve, or other structures of the body due to an injury, and the secondary effect is the body’s protective, defensive bracing around the injury. Too often this becomes part of the client’s chronic postural and pain patterns—long after acute problems are successfully resolved.

Trauma occurs when destructive events overwhelm our system’s higher defenses, and our organism resorts to internal fragmentation or walling off to cope with its devastating effects. These can include nervous system hypervigilance, rigid somatic patterning, and conditioned emotional responses.

Through skillful touch and bodywork we can facilitate clients in releasing these effects, becoming present in their bodies, and learning to reunite to their experience of wholeness.

istockphoto_5664112-brainIn this course, we’ll learn to restore balance to the sensori-motor and autonomic nervous system,facilitate the release of unnecessary, protective patterning and attune and respond to clients with empathic resonance both verbally and somatically.
You will learn to:

  • Identify bracing patterns in the body apart from injury or trauma.
  • Assess dysfunctional myofasical chains and their sequences of firing.
  • Learn methods to dissolve these patterns, reset the body, and re-introduce the natural vocabulary of healthy movement
  • Utilize the walking cycle for assessment and further crystallization of newly regained organic movement

You will greatly increase your effectiveness at resolving chronic pain whatever your preferred style of massage.

What to Bring: Set of sheets, pillow/bolster; wear loose clothing.
